If you just so happen to be driving through the coastal Buzzards Bay area in Massachusetts and are looking for a great spot for seafood, Quahog Republic needs to be your destination. With four locations to choose from, it fits every seafood lover’s mood. The Whaler’s Tavern in New Bedford and the Captain’s Den in Plymouth offer a casual sit-down atmosphere for anyone looking to have fresh seafood and cold drinks in a dining room. Both locations offer a fully stocked bar with craft brews and cocktails. The Dive Bar location in Falmouth is exactly what it sounds like. A relaxed atmosphere that offers the same seafood but even more bar food for those that prefer the dive food scene.

Last is the Waterfront Eatery in Onset which has both outdoor and indoor seating and a view of the bay. All four locations share the famous Monsta Lobster roll which is over a pound of warm and buttery lobster meat served on either a roll or on a bed of lettuce.

Another popular option are the freshly shucked oysters served on ice with lemon wedges and tartar sauce. Local favorites are the stuffed quahogs or the combo meals that let you try both a roll and a chowder or stuffed quahog and grilled frank. After visiting just once it is easy to see what all the craze is about, the drinks and food are a perfect representation of the best of seafood in the summer in New England.

Recommendation: The Waterfront eatery is a great spot to head over to for lunch if you’re spending the day at Onset Beach. It’s located just steps off the sand and across Onset Avenue. The first thing you’ll notice as you walk up to the front of the building are all the Bloody Mary’s spilling over with cocktail shrimp, bacon, and celery sitting in smiling customer’s hands. Next is the smell of the seafood wafting out of the kitchen mixing with that fresh salty smell in the air of the beach where you just came from.

The recommended dish to try is the Lobster Roll and Clam Chowder combination. The smaller portion of the two is enough to satisfy the appetite that you worked up crashing through the waves all morning. If you feel brave enough order the Mosta portion of the combination and get ready to take a long nap once your feet hit the sand and your back hits your chair as you retreat back to the beach.

The New England style clam chowder is “fantastic and creamy, and filled with large chunks of clams.” A second delicious dish is the crispy and flaky fish and chips platter which comes served with a side of slaw and tartar. The fried fish is unique because there are almond shavings in the batter which add to the texture and flavor of the meal.

Head to any of the four Quahog Republic locations this summer and enjoy some of New England’s best seafood.
