The Treehouse restaurant in Mystic, Connecticut is a unique restaurant. Climb the outdoor stairs next to the Oyster Club restaurant ( both establishments have the same owner) and step into a magical terraced seating area nestled in the treetops. Described as a space with a ‘Swiss Family Robinson’ feel, wood terraces are tucked between steps and platforms. The area is enclosed by wood railings and looks out towards the Mystic River. It is a cool and relaxing place to enjoy a summer afternoon or evening meal. Strings of lights enhance the magical feel as twilight falls.
Open seasonally, the restaurant is casual with an outdoor kitchen and bar. Patrons order at the bar and friendly wait staff bring meals to the tables. The menu’s main focus is seafood; however, there are a number of non–seafood choices such as hamburgers, hot dogs, vegetable items, and salads. We enjoyed seafood selections such as the buttery warm lobster roll with apple butter and shallots and the crispy fried scallop roll.
Fresh oysters are shucked on-site and served on ice. The cornbread side with maple butter is excellent and made with Indian flint cornmeal from Pawcatuck’s Davis Farm.
After your meal make sure you take time to wander around the scenic village of Mystic to enjoy the various shops. Also, close by are Mystic Seaport Museum and Mystic Aquarium.
